With the recent announcement of the roadmap for bringing the UK out of the third lockdown, Boris Johnson had confirmed that pubs, cafes, and restaurants will be able to reopen their doors to customers on the 12th April at the earliest. This is strictly for outdoor dining only, however, the Prime Minister also mentioned that hospitality venues may be able to return to serving customers inside dining rooms on 17th May at the earliest.
It’s important to note that when the hospitality sector re-opens, the rules and guidelines will still apply and this will include the rule of six or two-household rule. This time, there will no be curfew and no rules about substantial meals. However, customers must remain seated at their tables and they will not be able to order at the bar.
Many pubs and restaurants are now planning for a safe re-opening on 12th April and they will need to follow government guidelines and advice in order to make their venue COVID-safe. This includes ensuring that staff are trained on new procedures for social distancing, ensuring that facemasks are available and worn, ensuring that handwashing facilities are accessible, and limiting the total number of guests allowed at the pub or restaurant.
